This has been an effort by WARCOM since @ 2004 when they tried to use the MK23 MOD 0 specs to field a smaller version of the USP45. We developed for them the USP45 CT (Compact Tactical) which then lead to the HK45 and HK45C as part of the SOCOM Combat Pistol program. The original USP45 CT's were provided with Heine tritium sights, compact KAC cans with add-on front end wipe capsules to reduce both sound and visual report and a very slick modular Safariland drop holster that allowed the users to carry the pistol w/ or w/o the suppressor attached and keep the liquid in the can for days. We even had the Germans making sample 10-rd extended mags for the USP45 Compact. Really cool set up. The whole effort died when the SCP and later Joint Combat Pistol (JCP) programs died.
The purpose for that arrangement and the HK45C SD was/is the same as the MK23 MOD 0. Suppressed offensive engagments of sentries, dogs, lights, bad guys in general, but unlike the massive MK23 a compact package that can be carried ready to use with the suppressor attached.
Nice to see this has come around full circle.

похоже на океанах/в тропиках мк23 все же был относительно популярен до середины 00ых, раз ниша эта (45ого калибра с глушителем) оставалась в работе и родился hk45c
